1953 - Phil Armstrong of FEGC and R.E. Thompson meet with Clyde Taylor, EFMA, to share vision for missionary internship

1954 - December 22, Missionary Internship is incorporated in Michigan

1955 - Thirty adults from five missions complete the first seven-month internship session

1956 - Five missionaries martyred by “Auca” Indians

1959 - Gordon Donaldson begins 20-year tenure at MTI

1962 - Fred Renich named MI’s director

1963 - Furlough Missionary Institute established, Grand Blanc, Michigan

1963 - MI moves to 26 acre Farmington, Michigan campus

1965 - 1,000th missionary intern completes MI training

1970 - Sam Rowen begins 20-year tenure at MI

1971 - Dwight and Barbara Gradin join MI

1973 - Three week Pre-Field Orientation (PFO) offered along with seven month internship

1975 - First PILAT (Program in Language Acquisition Techniques)

1980 - Jack Robinson appointed President of MI

1982 - First Urban-Ethnic Internship held in inner city Detroit

1985 - 7,000th missionary intern completes MI training

1990 - Paul Nelson appointed President

1992 - MI moves from Farmington, MI, to Colorado Springs, CO

1994 - 10,000th missionary completes MTI training

1995 - International Family Services Department established

1996 - Name changed from Missionary Internship to Mission Training International

1998 - PFO becomes S.P.L.I.C.E.

2001 - MTI builds new training center in Palmer Lake, CO
