Thriving

Thriving develops through a combination of internal formation and external support. It is not accidental. The John Powell Institute gathers research and shared insight to help clarify what makes sustained, healthy engagement possible in cross-cultural life and work.

  • For too long, People Care & Development for cross-cultural workers has been operating without shared guidance to shape our field.  This leaves many of us operating in isolation without access to the knowledge and experience of others in People Care & Development. This has also meant our field has had no clear standards for vetting and training those who want to support cross-cultural workers, and no ethical guidelines for carrying out our roles.

The Shared Foundations Initiative is an invitation to change all of this. Through this initiative, we anticipate increased quality, consistency and collaboration in supporting CCWs, leading to more of Christ’s love in their lives and in the world.

  • In 2025, JPI launched the Thrive Outcomes Project, a collaborative effort exploring the question: What does it take for a cross-cultural worker to thrive?

This project is not only about answering that question. It is about building shared understanding, language, and purpose for those who support cross-cultural workers. To do this, JPI is gathering insights shaped by experience, wisdom, and research.
